Test Driving the 2007 Volkswagen Jetta
By: Boomer & XBoomer: Bringing back the Jetta Wolfsburg to the 2007 Volkswagen lineup takes me back to my German roots. It reminds me of the good old days when families were able to get together for the holidays. Every year I bought my mother a new nutcracker doll to display in her china cabinet.
X: Nutcrackers? I thought Germans were famous for Oktoberfest, bratwurst, sauerkraut, and beer steins. And, of course, Volkswagen, Europe’s largest car manufacturer. The Jetta Wolfsburg reminded me of going back to school. The 16 cubic feet of cargo room in the trunk was great for lugging supplies to my classroom.
Boomer: It was also perfect for carting new clothes and shoes from the mall. After all, a three-week cruise is not easy to pack for. Since we would be traveling throughout several parts of Europe, I had to be prepared for all types of weather.
X: Was Germany on your itinerary? Maybe you and dad should pack your dirndl and lederhosen. That may help you connect with those German roots you mentioned earlier.
Boomer: Don’t be foolish! I’m glad the Jetta Wolfsburg had such wonderful gas mileage. With 22-mpg city and 30-mpg highway, we were able to make several trips to the school and the mall.
X: Plus, it was easy to keep clean due to the European-style “Monster” rubber floor mats. Carpet can get so dirty. This must have been designed by a mother buying this car for her daughter.
Boomer: Also, this vehicle is extremely functional and starting at $19,360, it is affordable as well, even for a teacher.
X: Thanks mom, however, I would say it is cool enough for a teacher. I enjoyed the blue glow of the dash instruments at night, the connection for my Ipod, the chrome grill, 16-inch alloy wheels, sleek exterior lines, the sunroof, and, of course, the sound system. I had all the kids looking at me when I pulled up to school Monday morning in the Jetta Wolfsburg.
Boomer: That’s funny. Your father was also looking at me when I pulled up in the Jetta Wolfsburg, but I think he was checking to see how many shopping bags I brought back with me from the mall. Did you explain to the kids how safe the car is as well as how rad it looks?
X: Mom, no one really uses the word rad anymore. Nonetheless, I did tell them that safe happens with the Jetta Wolfsburg. It has six standard airbags and traction control. They must have been thinking of mothers while developing these features as well.
Boomer: There’s a lot of talk about mothers going on; do you have something to tell me?
X: Mom, I just got married two months ago. Don’t rush me.
Boomer: Okay, okay!
