2009 KIA Borrego EX 4X4Shop Till you Drop
2009 KIA Borrego EX 4X4

By: Melanie Droz

Although I waited until the last possible day to do all of my Christmas shopping, I felt at ease because I had the 2009 KIA Borrego EX 4X4 fully-equipped to practically do my shopping for me.

Before triggering the back-up warning signal from my parking spot, I used the Navigation System in the Borrego to map out my day. I simply plugged in my numerous POI's (Places of Insanity…I mean Points of Interest) such as Macy's Target, Sports Authority, Fascinations, etc. The sultry voice of direction-finding guided me through my day without getting lost even once.

After the first few stores, I already had to fold down the third row of seats to fit all of my bags. Not only was I shopping for my own family, which includes 22 nieces and nephews, but I was also shopping for the family my journalism students decided to adopt this year. I agreed to do the shopping if they raised the money. I was extremely thankful for all of the storage room in the Borrego, and I assume all of the recipients of my gifts were as well.

I was also appreciative of the cargo under floor storage compartment. I was able to hide the gift I bought for my husband at Fascinations while emptying the bags for the Adopt-a-Family at school. Not a bad idea on behalf of KIA.

2009 KIA Borrego EX 4X4The only bad feeling regarding the 2009 KIA Borrego is the gas mileage. With 15 city mpg and 20 highway mpg, I had to stop quite often for gas. Fortunately, gas is only $1.50 a gallon, so the Borrego is an affordable, practical SUV. At $39,295.00, the Borrego is reasonably priced; however, nobody in my family is going to be getting it for their Christmas present, since we have a $50 limit.

In the chaos of shopping mall parking lots during the holidays, it was quite easy to find the white Borrego, which I nicknamed “Snowflake,” amongst several other vehicles. Despite the rainy days surrounding Christmas, the Borrego looked scintillating. Who am I kidding? I was forced to use the remote keyless entry and follow the beeping sound in order to find the Borrego in the middle of hundreds of other cars. It was a crazy day to be shopping.

I made a total of eight stops before I was able to finish all of my Christmas shopping. Thanks to the V8 engine in the Borrego and the Traction Control System (TCS), I was able to finish quickly and safely. Not to mention, the 3 12-volt power outlets provided entertainment throughout the day. Although I should have kept the packages closed, I had to test out my sister's new IPod, the portable DVD player I got for my in-laws and, of course, the laptop that was a gift I bought for myself.

All this shopping made me build up somewhat of an appetite, so I met my husband for lunch. With hundreds of dollars worth of merchandise in the KIA Borrego, I felt completely safe leaving it for a couple hours in the parking lot because of the alarm system that comes standard.

My final Christmas wish this year is to make use of the tow hitch that comes with the 2009 KIA Borrego EX 4X4, so I asked my parents for a pair of jet skis. Do you think that will cost more than $50.?
