ON THE 11TH DAY OF CHRISTMAS,
MY TRUE LOVE GAVE TO ME…
By: Melanie Droz
The holidays are upon us (although it’s hard to tell because Phoenix has no seasons), which only means one thing: endless days at the crowded mall shopping for family and friends.
Since I would be driving all over town this week to get my shopping done early, I was lucky to have the 2010 BMW X5 xDrive35d. This BMW Advanced Diesel crossover SUV is made for better fuel economy. With 26 mpg highway/19 mpg city, it’s no wonder government ratings are about 22% higher than the 6-cylinder gasoline model. I already had to spend enough money on presents;
I didn’t want to empty my wallet for gas too.
Before leaving the driveway, I mapped out my day on the GPS navigation system in the X5. I planned on hitting 6 stores, but I had to get it done in 3 hours. Good thing the X5 xDrive35d goes 0-60 in 6.9 seconds. I would have to get around town quickly in order to make it to watch my 4-year-old niece perform at the Ahwatukee Festival of Lights.
My first stop was Sports Authority. My husband asked Santa for a new baseball glove for his Thursday night, Division C (old men wallowing in their glory days at bat) softball league. I thought I could make it out the store with the one item; however, Sports Authority was advertising a Nike Golf SQ SUMO 5000 Driver on sale that would be a perfect gift for my Dad. So, I lugged my items to the X5 where I was able to put down the third-row rear seats in order to make room for what would soon be a packed car.
I did some damage at the next store, leaving with 4 bags in one hand and a beautiful, 24X36” painting of New York for my grandparents under the opposite arm. Luckily, the 2010 BMW X5 xDrive35d comes with Comfort Access, which allows you to unlock the vehicle by simply touching the door handle as long as the remote key is in your pocket or purse. This came in handy quite a bit during my shopping extravaganza.
Normally, I would hate driving all day; yet, the X5 xDrive35d had several comfort features to offer. I enjoyed allowing the sunlight to shine through the Panoramic Moonroof, the stability/traction control system handled every type of ground (not that I was traveling through slush or snow), the turning ratio was perfect for going in and out of parking spaces, and despite the fact that I was driving a diesel, the soft grumble could only be heard with the windows down.
By the end of my shopping experience, I could not see out the back window due to the huge stacks of presents. I was lucky the X5 came with a rear-camera that allowed me to see any pedestrians of cars behind me.
I was also glad the 2010 BMW X5 xDrive35d has a 3-liter, 6-cylinder diesel engine with 265 horsepower at 4,200 rpm. Not to mention, 425 pounds-feet of torque at 1,750 rpm. If I was buying myself a present that day, I would have towed an X5 home just for me. However, the $51,200 price tag is more than I promised myself I would spend on gifts this year.
I finally made it to the Ahwatukee Festival of Lights with 5 minutes to spare. With 585 miles per tank of gas, the 2010 BMW X5 xDrive35d helped me get there on time since I didn’t have to stop for gas. I was able to watch my niece tiptoe hand-in-hand with other dancers her age across center stage. The best gift I got all day!
