2009 Chrysler Sebring Convertible

2009 Chrysler Sebring ConvertibleThe Sebring is Chrysler’s midsize car that’s available as either sedan or convertible. The Sebring sedan was revamped for 2007 and the new convertible joined the lineup in 2008. The new Sebring Convertible, for the first time, offers the choice of a power retractable hard top or a more traditional cloth top.

The 2009 Chrysler Sebring adds an improved acoustic package for reduced interior noise levels and new standard equipment for the Limited, including uconnect phone featuring Bluetooth technology, heated front seats, Remote Start, and heated/cooled cupholder. The Sebring Convertible Limited also receives 18-inch chromed aluminum wheels, automatic temperature control, and automatic headlights.

All nice features and while the Sebring convertible is much better looking than the sedan, it isn’t a head turner by any means and that may not be all bad as some folks just like the open air and not the stares. Starting at just a tad over $20,000 for the sedan and $23,800 for the convertible, you get a pretty solid car for the money. That said, I was disappointed with the 2.7 liter V6 that only put out 186hp and a rather anemic 191lb-ft of torque. Standard transmission is a 4-speed automatic and sadly the only way to get the 6-speed is in the top end Limited.

To get the 3.5 liter V6 with 235hp and 232lb-ft of torque, again you have to move up to the Limited trim level that starts at $34,750, and if you’re planning to climb many mountains, you’ll need the bigger engine. But if you’ll be using it around town and on flat highways, the 2.7 will be sufficient. Mileage estimates on the high side are 21/30 but I think the more conservative 16/27 rating is closer to what you’ll actually get.

Driving the Sebring was pleasant, and while that does sound a bit antiseptic, it’s the best I can do. However, if you just want a drop top and don’t need a lot of zing and zip, the Sebring may be exactly what you’re looking for and if you keep a car a long time, Chrysler’s unlimited powertrain warranty is a pretty good incentive.
