Perfection out the front window-Yachats, Oregon
By Cathy Burford

Motorhome Travels Yachats, OregonOne of the best aspects of motorhome travel is stumbling upon someplace fabulous.  This happened to us on our first motorhome trip up the Oregon Coast.  We were driving north on Highway 101,having just driven past the town where we had planned to stop. It turned out that their RV Park was nearly a half mile away from the ocean.  Instantaneously, we had deemed this unacceptable.  On a quest for a new ‘perch’, we continued northward when a tiny outpost appeared.  There, set right on the beach, was the appropriately name ‘Sea Perch RV Resort’.  Even at 55 mph, I could see that they had one space available on the beachfront, so we turned around (not always the easiest thing to do at 36’ with a toad) and secured the aforementioned slot.  So stunned we were by our good luck, I took this shot to remind us just how perfect it was!

The park is located 6.5 miles south of the town of Yachats, with over a mile of unspoiled soft sand public beach (Sea Rose) to stroll on, or if you prefer, meditate, jog, fly kites, or explore tide pools.  This list goes on and on.  The beauty of this park is that you can have both the tranquility of an ocean retreat, and a central location to access a myriad of the Oregon Coasts’ most famous attractions.  Among them; Coos Bay Wildlife Preserve, The English & Japanese gardens of Shores Acres State Park, Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, Umpqua Lighthouse State Park, Jesse Honeyman State Park, Florence, Sea Lion Caves, Heceta Head Lighthouse, Cape Perpetua, Oregon Coast Aquarium, Newport, Devil’s Punchbowl State Park, and Depot Bay.

The Sea Perch boasts all of the standard features of an RV ‘resort’; full hook-ups, cable TV, showers, laundry facilities, and picnic tables.  Additionally, they are in the process of building a new clubhouse (which will include a workout room, game room, and group seating areas), Wifi, and a gift shop/mini market (this is very handy, as the park is away from town).  To check out all of their amenities, go to www.seaperchrvpark.com. where you can make your reservations online.  Their website has several links to general area information, and you can also check out www.yachats.org.

It’s no surprise that many of the fellow RV enthusiasts we met at the Sea Perch have been returning there year after year.  It’s a place to be as active or as tranquil as you like.  It’s also a place that you will be reluctant to leave. But don’t delay in planning your trip there, as new ownership is planning to sell the individual pads after the site improvements are completed.  However, as with all ownership vacation properties, some of the spots should still be available to rent. Ah…if you could only take the sounds of the surf with you.  That, truly, would be perfect.
